Default Doing big shot staggered install on FLSTN today, any tips?

The instructions seem pretty straightforward, and I've done quite a bit of this type of thing on cars, but wanted to check if there are any gotchas. Going with the SEAC and a SERT map the tech recommended. Can't wait to hear her sing!

p.s. Did a search, but came up with a lot of useless info about sound, performance, etc, but nothing pertaining to the actual install. Maybe there's a FAQ I'm missing?

Use Never Seize on your O2 threads...and be careful when you get em started.

It's a pretty easy install.

Gracias! Now if only the dealer would call to let me know the bike was ready, I could get this show on the road.[>:]

My only tip would be to buy the pipes from our sponser Eastern Performance Products. They are far cheaper than your friendly dealer and provide free shipping for that price range of equipment.

I used the Fuelpac from Vance & Hines and got it from Eastern for $213. It was so easy to install and set up a monkey could have done it. Saved at lot of money by bipassing the Harley shop. Bought the SEAC from Eastern also for about $100.

My savings was over $500 by not using the dealer, of course I didn't get a Dyno tune. But V&H are the drag racing experts and have all the codes for any variations of pipe or air cleaners.

I did not put in the quiet baffels in my Vance & Hines Big Shot Staggered Pipes and yes they are loud but sweet! My neighbors are not pleased but I love the sound.

Got everything 20% off, so I saved a bunch too...probably paid what I should have paid to begin with. Given that I'm new to motorcycles, I took my time on this one, got some help from pops, and took hours just getting the exhaust bolted up properly. SEAC and reflash will happen tomorrow morning, as I'm done for the night.

I did fire her up and I must say, she sounds fantastic!

Glad it turned out well for you. Ride safe and often.

Just to make you crazy I went into the Eastern site to check pricing:
This is todays pricing.

Vance & Hines Big Shot Staggered for Softails $479.95
Screaming Eagle Air Cleaner $129.95
Vance and Hines Fuelpak $ 206.95

Total cost, if you do the work yourself, $816.85

I will take a wild guess an say that Harley charged you well over $1,500 after you get your flash and final tune. Even with your 20% discount. My dealer wanted close to $600 just for the pipes plus the cost to install them. The SERT is a big ticket item to at about $450.

It takes about one hour to install the V&H Fuelpak and you set up the codes yourself. You can change them anytime and you don't need to get a Harley Flash.

I do understand its a done deal but others may want or need to save some money and take the inexpensive route.

No worries at all, and I hope others do get a better deal! I am doing the work myself, though I will ultimately end up paying for a dyno tune. I got the SERT for $150 more than the price listed for the fuel pack, but I may need the added flexibility down the road. My price wasn't far off the numbers you posted, but I'll definitely look at Eastern Performance in the future.

If you're not already on the payroll, they should give you a little bit of commission on HDF sales.

One suggestion with the heat shield install. Gaining acess to some of the hose clamps can be a REAL PIA if you dont spend some time correctly "orientating" the clamps so as to be able to easily get a screwdriver to the clamps.

There is also a little note about removing the stock tranny/exhaust bracket. I didn't see this note, and left the bracket on. After my pipes were all installed, I realized the bracket contacts the pipe. Getting the bracket off AFTER the pipes are installed is a HUGE PIA! I am not sure if your '07 has this bracket, but if it does, yank it off as soon as your stock system is off. Good luck..

Thanks Road_Clam. The pipe install went without much of an issue, got the clamps situated properly and the exhaust bracket is gone, also relocated my passenger peg. Unfortunately, I do not have any cables for the SERT, so I can't finish this damn thing off until a local stealer opens. None too pleased this morning, even though the pipes did sound awesome last night.

Yeah but you forgot to mention that the V&H fuel pack doesn't hold a candle to the quality of the SERT.

If the price was even in the ballpark then I'd go SERT before I went Fuel Pak.

The SE AC is cheap everywhere...even at the dealer.

I'd say he did fine.

WouldBeHD...it's a GIANT pain in the *** that HD doesn't include the cables and sells them separately. It should be a crime that someone sold it to you and didn't tell you that you would need the cables too.
