rbabos, you are absolutely right on the oil and grease separating. It is the cheap/lightweight stuff and hopefully it will stop like others havedone over time. I'm ok with it but really is cool to know other bikesdo it too and not just mine. comfort in numbersI suppose *L*..thanks all..ride safe.
Harley only packs the bearings when they first put them in at the factory,at the 1000mile service they fill the neck with grease,I did my 05 heritage myself and it took allmost an entire tube of grease,I learned my lesson on my 07 egc I used synthetic grease it cost more but doesnt start leaking out when it gets hot,if you have the service manual it tells you to fill the neck until grease starts coming out, then at the next service it only takes a few pumps.
Mine has only done 4000km's but even when I wiped with a rag around that area the other day I noticed the rag was still relatively clean afterwards so NO mine leaks none at this stage. Did they tighten everything in that area during your initial service?
My 07 Heritage started leaking this weekend, very hot day. It has 2500 miles on it, and guess that at the 1000 mile checkup they filled it up. Sure was happy to hear an explaination for this leak.
Why the hell would anybody want to pump the neck full of grease. In reality it only needs a smear on the bearings. Look at a cars taperd timpkins. They see a lot more action than a steering head and the wheel hub isn't packed full. Many never see service in their life time and never wear out.

My '07 Fatty dropped a big lump of grease (@500Klm's) on the top of the rocker cover and sprayed a small amount down the frame - nothing like the smell of bearing grease cooking whilst stopped in traffic - I just wiped it off and check it every week when I give it a tub.
I hope the dealer gives it another hit on Monday when the first service is done - may need fit a fire extinguisher - what's available HD genuine (flames or skulls?) [8D]
