Default Solved: Sears Pro Jack fast-drop

I thought I'd post this here since I looked for solutions and only one person posted something on another forum about it. (TLDR at bottom)

I bought my sears professional (yellow) motorcycle jack last weekend, it was on sale for $50 less than usual, and I was in the market since I didn't own one. I like that it was aluminum, not foot operated (I'm odd like that), and in a strange sense, it matches my JEGS 3 Ton Aluminum jack with it's chrome/silver/yellow scheme.

Got it home, tried it out with me being the object to lift, and wow, this goes down fast! I read on the forums about people complaining about this as well, so it was expected, but, I thought it can't be that bad. Stuck it under my bike, lifted it gently to the first stop, released the stop, and lowered it gen...tl....HOLY CRAP. Blink and miss it fast! Well, that's enough of that. Did I mention my JEGS jack does the same thing?

So, I let it stew. Finally tonight I started looking into what could be done to fix it. Most said "replace it with J&S", some said "replace it with (other brand)", while a couple referenced something they read about replacing the hydraulic fluid with non-detergent 30w oil. None of those seemed right. One said drill the handle and turn it to a T-Bar, which will give you more leverage and control. OK, getting close. Then I read 1 post where someone suggested not cranking the handle before lifting. I tried that, used myself as a test lift/drop and it was easy and smooth. WIN.

TLDR: Don't crank the handle tight. I tried it with it just barely stopped; turned with loose fingers only...and it still lifted my bike just fine; then when I went to let it down, it took very little effort, was slow coming down, and easily controllable.

I've never had an issue with the drop speed of mine! Over time, I've gotten better at loosening it very gradually, to the point where the downward motion is barely noticeable. It is a little unnerving, is all, when the bike goes over onto the kickstand. But I think that would be an issue with any jack.

The only thing I don't like about it, is that with more of the weight toward the rear of the bike, it tilts toward the rear rather significantly when lifted, which makes it seem flimsy.

Yeah, it's not the most solid-feeling jack to be sure; but I am reasonably confident it will do any job I'll ask of it.
