I haven't upgraded the suspension in my softail yet but on my last bike (sportster) I put Racetech single rate springs (they build to your weight) in the front end with Ricor Intiminators and it was awesome! I'll be doing the same setup on my softail soon. I had the Progressive front springs in before the Racetech/Ricor setup and there was no comparison. Ride quality and handling was head and shoulders better than the Progressive springs.
Pros and cons of progressive & single rate front springs
i weigh 73kgs/160lbs no gear and looking into fixing breakout brake dive and front end shake
The Stock springs are progressive rightv ? My breakout started out ok but now after 20,000km its spongy, dives and shimys..there is no oil leak either so what happened ?
I put Progressive springs in Reapers forks, and it was a huge improvement over stock. The handling is way better, they're smoother over rough roads, and the fork don't dive under hard braking.
A few seasons ago I put single rate Race Tech springs and their gold valve emulators in my Heritage and it fixed up that feeble front end by quite a little.

were the gold valves difficult to tune.unlike ricor racetech have no selections for rider weight or bike type on the product page.
I used the progressive monotubes on my 16 Deluxe with a 1 inch drop, handling much improved and no more nose dive on hard braking. progressivesuspension.com/
I put Progressive springs on my Sportster 48, and at the same time, installed Progressive 412 shocks. It improved the ride quality 10 fold, and it got rid of the fork dive.
I installed the Progressive Suspensions fork spring kit on my Breakout and the difference over stock was huge!! I'm 160lbs and went with the "standard" rate. No more nose dive, and they really help to soak up the bumps and pot holes. They're under $100 and the install is simple, less than an hour. Well worth it!!! http://www.progressivesuspension.com...ork-spring-kit
