Oil Filter Question
Hello guys,
My friend recently bought a 2016 HD Softail Slim S and he'd like to know if the K&N oil filter is better than the HD one. He read somewhere that a guy had a problem with his bike(heating if I remember correctly) after using the K&N oil filter. Any input or suggestion is appreciated

I've seen the K&N oil filters spring a leak where the "nut" that makes them easy to remove is spot welded on the end. Amazon reviews confirm this is far from an isolated problem.
Good concept, but too risky IMO.

Some swear by them, some swear at them. The K&N is nice because of the nut at the end. I used them til I went with a Pro-Flo.
You're gonna get a **** load of opinions on this so, put on your crash helmet, sit back and watch the fun!

IF it says anything but Harley on it you can bet a number of people will say it is the greatest thing on earth. Never had an HD filter fail .
K&N makes good products.

HD makes a good filter...I read on "bobistheoilguy.com" where they took several diff filters apart an compared the quality of the materials an amount of filtering media an the HD's stack up well. I quit buying the K&N filters when they moved production out of the US.

Lots of hardcore gearheads consider Wix to be the best. They are available either painted or chrome for Harley at O'Reilly auto parts stores. Or at least they are at the one closest to me. That's what I started using, after encountering several Harley filters with a metal flashing (from the plating process?) that reached almost all the way across the gasket between the filter and the engine, and looked like it could break off easily.

I refuse to even sip the "green" Kool Aid, never mind believe the flawed economics of them paying off over time but,, there's something confidence inspiring about being able to see the guts of your filter before using it and during changes as well. Thats why I've switched to a high flow permanent filter that is rated at 22 microns in absolute terms.
Oh,,, and the nut on top of the billet aluminum case doesn't leak.
