I have used HD filters and K & N filters. No problems with either. I thought about the Pro Flo filters, but it cost quite a bit and seems like a pain to clean and reuse, but it looks pretty cool. If I had a race motor and needed to check for metal chips, I'd use one.

Not trying to turn this into a personal campaign to defend my choices but; FYI, the PITA factor in dealing with permanent filter oil changes gets waay overstated.

All you do extra is prepare, along with funnels, catch pans, paper towel, wrenches, etc. etc., as you normally do, containers of soapy water and rinse water for your reusable filter. A swish in each and set the filter aside till you've dealt with the other 2 holes and your filter components will be dry enough to reinstall. Trace moisture is totally inconsequential as it vaporizes away on your subsequent ride, as you no doubt know. It all amounts to a small change in organizing the process and adds virtually nothing to the time involved. Use light colored containers for the swishing and you readily see if there is anything nasty in amounts you need be concerned about.

Dunno if all this applies to the Pro Flo filters per se but in general the whining about "all the inconvenience" of permanent filter oil changes is being done by folks who haven't used em,,,,,, "obviously".

Main reason not to use em is cost.

I figure I need to go through about 5, maybe 6 oil changes for a Pro Flo to pay for itself. HKMark23, you are correct I have never used one or cleaned one. I have looked at them and they are cool looking, but for me it is a personal choice of convenience. The biggest PIA for me is the location of the oil filter and fact it lays horizontal and not vertical. That along makes a big enough mess for me to clean up. If I decide to add an oil cooler and can relocate the oil filter I would consider using a Pro Flo.

Oh,,, and the nut on top of the billet aluminum case doesn't leak.

Ditto!
