A change in jobs and catching up on other spending, my plan for a 2007 Fatboy has been delayed. In the meantime I am getting more interested now in a 2007 Softail Custom. This will be my first Harley, leaving behind the metric world.
I will have to get in line with my preferred dealer's order-allocation andhoping tohand over a check and get inthe queueby mid July. Don't know yet what the delivery schedule will be. I have had theenjoyment to test-ride a 07 Fatboy, during Daytona Bikeweek, but didn't (haven't) been on the Softail Custom. The bobtail rear fender, mini-apes, and missing floor boards makes the Custom very apealing to me now. Either bike will have to stay stock for awhile.
Can anyone share their relative perspective between these two models?
When do we start getting a look at next year's models? Should I delay my purchase decision?
I am so excited about my future Harley (which ever model it becomes) I don't know if I can wait much past having my deposit ready. Anyone else caught between model years sharing my anxious feelings?
Knowing the saying that buying a Harley is just the down-payment for everything else you end up buying, are any of you really content riding stock? With that said, I don't think I have found a single forum member on a stock bike. I'm not a young guy trying to live past his means; but instead an old-guy with a flame uphis butt finally being (almost) able to get whathe wants. Hee hee.
Personally I would choose a fatboy over the custon, but that's because I don't like the small front end on the custom. Out of all the softails I like the Heritage, Deluxe, and Springers the best. Don't wait for some forum to shape your opinion. I recommend you buy what you like, not what other people like. So if you really like the features and the look of the custom then do it.
I dont think there will be any changes in the 08's your looking at. Since the FXSTC is new in 2007 since its hiatus in 1999 and it has all the new features ( 6 speed trans - 96 engine ). Cant say about the fatboy though. Id definatly ride the FXSTC and compare it agianst the FB that youve already ridden, that way you can see which one you like. You cant go wrong on either bike! Mine is Totaly stock bar the grips-pegs-slip-ons for a Total cost of about $350 in upgrades. Good Luck!~!
I would hold off on putting a depsoit down until you've ridden the Custom. The bikes feel just as different as they look. I think the info on the '08s is supposed to be released in July. You won't be disappointed with either bike. It just comes down to a personal preference. I ride a 2005 Deuce and my dad has a 2000 Fatboy. I like the way both bikes feel. They're just different. As far as being content with keeping it stock, I couldn't do it. I like to stand out from the crowd. I started with small things and then just jumped on the customizing wagon. I'm still not done with mine. Keep us posted on what you decide to get. Ride safe.
For the most part, the bikes are the same except the FL versus FX front end. The FL on the Fatboy is a little smoother on the highway but probably not that noticeable. When you get to the point you are in the decision process, it generally boils down to which bike you like the looks of.
I have a Standard which is a Custom without chrome and I like the ride. I put about $2,500 in accessories on my bike when I bought itwhich included passing lamps, a windshield, engine guard, grips, highway pegs, sissy bar and luggage rack. Haven't done anything since.
Our local guy says the 2008's will start arriving mid July. If past history is any indication, the better deals will be made on the 2007's, like selling at MSRP plus maybe some store credit. Since the Softails were overhauled in 2007, there probably won't be much difference in the 07's versus 08's.
