I was considering keeping the stock rinehart baffles which are very low profile, basically sleeves with louvers and using the lollipop in place of the mounting bolt through the endcap, pipe and baffle.. Then test with a few different angles from parallel to 90 degrees profile with the lollipop. I've also considered trying to increase the profile of the louvers on the baffles also.. Just a little more infront of the airflow.
So are you saying the RH baffles don't reduce at all? I may try to fabricate a set of those to try in my pipes.
Actually they do only slightly neck down.. Not down like a typical baffle to I think 1 1/2" but I think 1 3/4".. I may be completely off on those measurements.. I need to measure those inside diameters. I'd bet if I pulled the baffles and stretched some of the louvers inward it would make a positive difference.. might have to try it and post some pics, if and when I get the time.
I will.. I remember how dadgum difficult it was to pull the baffles before so I'll admit, I'm NOT looking forward to getting that project started. hehehe
I see you're running VH bigshot shorts.. Had them when I first bought my bike.. I had a bear of a time trying to tune to them. Hopefully if you're a fuel injected bike it would be easier with a good map.. On my carb bike it was tough.. Huge difference when I swapped. Pretty pipes though.. VH makes great looking exhaust. The longshots I had on my old bike were completely different.. They were easy to tune to and completely different sound.. more like my RH's.
WARG, sorry I totally didn't mean to steal up your thread. Jump in guys on his question.. I'll shuttup now.
Anyone found any good sound files of the fat cats?
I'd hate to commit, then crank up the bike and be missing that rinehart rumble.
That's the only thing about 2 into 1's.. It's a very "different" sound I think.
I'm considering the "lollipop" trick to get a little more low-mid torque going and eleviate the drag-pipe torque-dip. Any feedback? Is it a pain? Looks easy enough.. I actually had some thumb-screw type bolts with a wide "handle" for that purpose, rather than the trouble of welding something up.
The Fat Cats sound better than the Rinehart 2 into 1 if you ask me. They both sound great...deeper and more bassy than a 2 into 2 pipe.
i've gone through a few pipes. running the fourbidden darksides right now but my choice is the pro pipe with modified baffle for both sound and performance. (BTW, nice Train Hammer!)
Hey guys I just put a D&D Fatcat w/ the standard baffleon my 01 Fatboy a couple of weeks ago to replace my Hooker longshots w/o baffles(I'll post a pic later today). The fit & finish is top notch. It took me about 2.5 hours to install them, all the header bolts go on real easy except the rear top one. Not alot of clearance around it but it can be done. I was a little dissappointed with the sound at first, it was a little quiet. The soundhas started toget alot louderafter a couple of hundred miles. You will love the performance, I have not put it on a dyno yet so I don't know what the actual increases are. Ican tell you that you will feel it instantly, it revs quicker, the throttle response is alot better, and you can feel the torque& HP come on alotsooner. It rocks. My buddy has an 03 Heritage and I let him ride it he confirmed he felt thedifference too. The ony complaint I have is that it rides a little low so I've scraped it a couple of times.I cranked the preload up a little bit and haven't dragged it since.
