I’d like to get a peek at the paint job on your bike. The photo above is a teaser!

I installed a DK Custom Products oil filter relocation kit on my Breakout a few months ago, and I'm very happy with it!! I didn't like the look of the brass fittings (on this bike), so I coated them with a black, high temp ceramic/enamel.

Yes. Its minor, (5-7 deg), but there's a definite temp reduction. Not only is your filter out where the air can get at it but there is a slight increase in oil capacity as well which helps.

I like the idea of the cleaner oil changes, but the added lines and fittings just increase the chance for a failure with the added complexity.

The DK Custom works very well; my only issue was one that was specific to my Wide Glide, I needed the fittings on the engine adapter to be in an exact position. With my forward controls I needed the oil hoses to clear the +3" extended shift rod; combined with using a second engine thermostatic adapter for my Jagg oil cooler, there was limited space.

The DK Custom engine adapter spins on and there was no way to get the adapter snug and have the fittings in the proper orientation needed. I used it for a time but was unhappy with the plumbing job so I eventually removed the DK Custom engine adapter and bought a 3Guyz billet engine adapter so that I could position the fittings exactly where I needed them. I still had some clearance issues so I deleted the thermostatic adapter and plumbed the relocation in series with the Jagg oil cooler core.

With mid-controls or a less over the top shift rod, the DK Custom relocation is going to work out quite nicely. As is usually the case, I'm the architect of my own problems

You'd find they incorporate JIC fittings and hydraulic lines which, (not that I'm about to try it ), you could probably suspend the entire bike from if you were into silly extremes to prove a minor point. I do understand your concern though that "Relocations" do violate the KISS principle. You gotta weigh the benefits against the failure possibilities however, and this mod is a "win" IMHO.

My one peeve, which I like to pass on to potential users, is that these units come with what our industry calls "Jubilee", or screw on hose clamps. These clamps are the gold standard in North America's auto industry but don't deserve the title IMHO. For the pennies involved, I've ditched these and installed my kit using Oetiker stepless clamps instead. These crimp on, have no moving parts and are highly reliable and kind to hoses. They cut off easy by applying side cutters to the clamp ear, then must be replaced as they cannot be reused. Clamps may be a small issue but worth the equally small cost and effort IMHO. Oetiker stepless clamps are the better choice.
