Default cam upgrade question

I know it has been done to death but just have a couple of outstanding questions. The cyco replacement shoes are obviously the cheapest way to go but i guess the hydraulic tensioner kit gives you a better oil pump as well. Is that worth the difference in price? Obviously it makes sense to do the bearings when in there and probably a cam upgrade. Not looking for much, just running cooler would be nice. But am left wondering even with a modest cam is there a need to have the map on efi looked at again? Don't fancy spending big bucks on a power vision that i will use once. 05 Night train with usual stage 1.

Thanks

I reckon it depends on how much of the work you can do yourself. The Cyco shoes are a bit fiddly, requiring the disassembly of the existing tension arms. You can get the tool to change the shoes at the same time as you get the shoes. There'll be some other tools you'll likely need, which will increase the overall cost. But it will still be a heluva lot less than the hydraulic set-up. If money is the only deciding factor, you can do several shoe change-outs for the cost of the hydraulic set-up.

If you're gonna change cams, you might consider gear drive cams if your crank end run-out is within the tolerance specified. With that, cam chain tensioner worries are gone. And yes, a cam change will require a different tune.

I don't think there is a 100% right answer for every person. Whichever way you go, there are other associated costs to consider. You'll want to research the project fully.

What year bike? Yes the Hyd upgrade or the roller Chain Conversion give a better oil pump IMO, fill us in on your goals & I'm guessing the shoes are bad?
