Mine did the same thing on my way to a rally a few weeks back. I took it by the stealer and they had it in and out in 15 min and didnt charge me a dime. They said that it was from riding in the rain that the shaft had just gotten dirty. No more problems as of yet. I've had this bike 3 months with over 5k miles.

I doubt the MC is going to do anything about it. The design is older than we are and its neither a new problem or one that's merrited anything like serious attention by the company. A couple of drops of oil once in a while on moving parts has up until fairly recently been considered normal course preventative maintenance.
Its only in the last 10 to 15 years thatpeople have forgotten that. Personally I think we have gotten a little spoiled by vehicles that don't need tune ups for 100,000 miles and forget that a Harley, even the nice shiney new ones they sell today are really fairly old designswith part designs that predate our parents, well maybe not mine. But many of the parts areold enough to almost beconsidered antiques and need to be thought of and treated in an old school way.
I'm sorry you went down on your bike, it would tick me off too if it was caused by something assimple, and stupid as a sticking shifter. But I learned a long time ago never to completely trust engineers. They are forced by economic forces outside of their control to design things to work properly for as long as possible, but stay underbudget. So if it moves I lube it, if it doesn't I make damn sure its tight, and stays that way.

just ran into the same problem the other day on my night train. ive been riding around like this and spooked myself a couple times because of it. so this bolt that tends to burr is just the one at the base of the actual shifting lever, ie. right under my foot?

Same $%^& is happening to me. I'm going out right now to take a look.

So far about 4 times in the last 200 miles. Have a total of about 1200 on my 07 NT.

Thanks for the advice. Thought it was my fault. Still not quite used to riding in Okinawa as I rarely get above 4th gear. (small island, to many cars= very low speed limits) Glad I got an 07 with the 6th gear, haven't used it yet.........

That's the one, you might also want to check the ball ends on the shifter rod.
They can also get screwed up from road dirt.

Well I went and checked it out. Seems you were right. Took it all down, cleaned it up and put some anti-sieze on. Took a quick spin around the block and it shifted like new. I guess will all the rain and the humidity it is something that I will check more often.

Riding on the left isn't to bad. Now the cars on the other hand are right side drive. That adds a little excitement. You can always tell the new folks over here, see them driving on the wrong side.

Thanks for the help.

I even took it to the dealership near me and the F&^%N Shmuck mechanic insisted that it was ever so slightly bent and that i must have dropped the bike or bent it somehow...YEAH RIGHT!!!...like i wouldnt know if i dropped the F&*&N BIKE!!!...the bigger shame of it is..I PAID 300 BUCKS TO HAVE THEM REPLACE IT LIKE AN A*& HOLE!!!!!....Thanks guys!! im glad i know what the problem is now and that im not alone...
