Your welcome guys, Now you know why I swapped out the shifter rod for one of the polished stainless steel ones from Harley. It looks better and the heim joints on the end don't get screwed up like the ball and sockets. Just need to keep them and the shifter pivot bolt clean, andlubed and your good to go.
Besides it looks a lot better than the stock POS.
Here's the new one with the old one in front for comparison.
The pic is not that good, but you get the idea.
top,
I can imagine its toughgetting into a stick shift car with the shifter on the left. A friend had an imported Triumph TR4 when I was just out of HS and I remember trying to drive that thing was a blast. But very confusing at first. Parrellel parking was easier, but nothing else was, I hit the curb a few times at first on the one way streets in New York City. Left hand turns took a bit of getting used to even in that little car. Scared the bejeasus out a few people waiting to cross the street.
Good Luck and ride safe.
I had the same problem, but I noticed the gear shift stuck when the engine got hot. I resolved it by removing the gear link arm from the black support on the frame sanded out the powder coating from the inside greased it lightly and had no more problems on my Heritage in the past3 years. Metal expands when it gets hot and in heavy traffic or city riding Harleys throw out a fair bit of heat, and the rod was binding up.this was why whenI would let it cool down it worked fine until it got hot again
