I have a 97 electra glide classic. the last couple weeks been having an issue with the heel shaft coming loose during riding. Bought a new set of heel/toe shifter thinking maybe the old one weren't any good. My second time riding with the new ones the heel came loose again. Could it be time for a new shifter shaft??
I had a similar problem but with an aftermarket H/T shifter by Drag Specialties, which I installed myself.
My splined shaft has an ident ring milled into it so I had the new shifter body drilled & tapped so a set screw could be inserted through the shifter body into the ident on the spline. Its loctited in place and nothing budges now.
I had the same issue on my 2011 Street Glide. I replaced the allen bolt with a hex bolt, and where the threads came up through the top of the lever, I put a nut on that. It's been a few weeks and one 500 mile trip, and it hasn't come loose.
