Close Call Yesterday!
Well after a busy morning of the usual yard work and appeasing the missus I went for an afternoon ride from Fayetteville, Pa to Thurmont,Md my route of travel took me through downtown Gettysburg,Pa. I was on Rt 97 and just turned onto RT 15 south went about a mile and out of no where a 2 foot long piece of moulding/shrapnel was airborn and into my fender of my 2006 Springer Classic ( I did have my windshield on) after hitting my fender it flipped to the left went between my front fender and frame back into the front tire and off to the right side of the bike striking my footboard, foot and leg, it then bounced off me and under the bike and it was over with. I pulled to the shoulder and did an immediate exam of the bike and once satisfied with nothing mechanical or major checked myself ( priorities you know) Damaged assessment-----
scrap to fender and strut
huge dent to front edge of right footboard
scraped powdercoating on frame in 3 spots not noticable unless a keen eye looks for it
3 scratches/gouges to 3 seperate pieces of chrome pipe covers
and my SE mufflers have a scrape on the underside not visible from a normal vantage point
Rust colored crap on my whitewall ( later came off easily with simple green and elbow grease)
Now we'll see how good the insurance is..................

Spent part of the weekend (Fri and Saturday) with my daughter and her girl scout troop. Went to the Kansas Cosmosphere for some fun, education, and to do an overnighter. (sleeping on the floor sukt, btw)
Anyway....today, we are on the way back. I have my kid and two other 8 yr olds in the car. Heading North on I-135 near Salina Kansas, in the left lane. Speed limit is 70, I have the cruise set at 75, when I start coming up on a mini van.
Just about the time I am drawing even with the rear bumper, the van starts drifting to the left. When it becomes apparent that the driver is oblivious to my presence, I hit the brakes, and backed off. The van keeps GOING left, crossing the left solid line, and on into the ditch. When the driver (whom I am assuming was SLEEPING) woke up, the RIGHT side tires of the van were the only thing on the pavement.
The driver braked hard, and swerved right, once again, coming into my path of travel. As I moved back to the left, to pass behind it, and away from it's direction of travel, I could plainly see the exhaust and gas tank. The right side tires on that thing had to be 2 feet off of the ground. The only thing that saved that van from rolling, was the driver steering to the left, causing the right side to come back down. More than likely dumb luck, as opposed to skill.
I was shaking like a leaf, when my cell phone rang. The passenger in the vehicle following me, in our little convoy was screaming on the phone.."Did you SEE that Chit?"
Yea...No effin chit I saw it....
Good thing is the kids were completely oblivious to the entire incident.
