I've got a unexplained wobble, the only other time I've felt anything like this was when I got a flat on the rear of one of my bikes, it started this summer or at least that's when I noticed it, haven't done anything to the bike to change any thing, air in tires is good, but when I get up to speed then let off a little I get the wobble, like when following a semi an caught in his wash, initially I thought the Memphis shades lowers I had was causing it so removed them an windshield an still get it, seems most noticeable when I get up to 75-80 mph then let off, while accelerating its fine its when I go to maintain my speed that I get it, not sure whats causing it but its definitely making me uncomfortable to ride the bike. Any ideals ???
If your suspension is working properly and your tires are fine I would look at a loose steering stem or possibly loose (rear) spokes. Both of these will cause the symptoms you are seeing.
Softails are odd in a way that A LOT of them have this wobble you describe, and it can be caused by a number of things, you may even try adding 3 more psi to the tires and see if it helps. Fat Boys are the worst for this and you can spend a lot of money throwing parts at it to get it right. My '05 Deluxe has 16" apes and a 21x3.5" front wheel I will occasionally get a slight wobble at the same time you do but it is rare and I have not worried about it. I was expecting it to be worse being such a tall front end but it isn't. I did tighten the steering stem to get the fall away correct after adding the weight of the new parts to the front end though.
I'm going to put it up on the lift table this afternoon an check all the spokes, my tires say 40psi cold an that's what I'm running in them, might try to add a 2 or 3 more just to see if that helps any.
We'll figured it out pretty quick, put it up on the table an raised the rear end, could wiggle the rear wheel side to side by hand! Every spoke on it was loose!!! 30 yrs of riding, I've had a spoke loose once in awhile but never had one get like this before, I always check them when I clean my rims an when one is loose I'll tighten it. Rim has a fairly new Dunlop on it an was balanced, I might try some of that Ride Right stuff you squirt inside tube.
