I have a 2001 Fatboy. I bought the bike recently. The previous owner told me the signals diddnt work but he diddnt know why and doesn't know when or how they stopped working cause it was like that when he bought it from the original owner in 2012. The fronts are LED and I believe the backs might be too. I followed all the wires to each light and they are spliced in to the wiring like they should be and no damage anywhere to the turn signal wiring. I'm not sure if there is a load equalizer on the bike.
Neither side works and signals don't blink on the cluster either. Doesn't work when on ignition or accessory. 4-way hazards don't work either. All other lights operate as they should.
Ive read a lot of threads on this forum about this problem that pointed to the TSM but before spending $160 on a part I (may) not need I figured I would see if anyone else has any ideas.
So my brother checked out my bike today, he's the electrical guy, this is what he said;
Put this on your forum...
"Tested output from blinker switch at tsm module. Used digital volt meter and found ground on the input wire from the switch to the tsm. When turn signal switch is pressed it briefly removed ground then came right back."
is that normal operation thus far leading us to believe it's the module?
it could be that the led's don't draw enough power so the tsm thinks the bulb is blown. I had this when I put leds on my V rod...I had to put a load equalizer on....I used LED run/turn/brake...an only had to put a equalizer on the turns.
On my '13 Blackline, I was told it needed a load equalizer to keep the dash light from flashing fast. The turn signals flashed correctly but the dash did flash fast...big damn deal. I never put the equalizer on.
I just replaced the TSM. Signals flash. They flash a few times then the 4 ways go on and then they don't and then they do. They are blinking fast, then 4 days again.
i understand I need a load equalizer for the led lights but would that also be causing the 4 ways to turn on randomly too?
