Wanted a Crossbones of 07 or later to have the last of the springer offerings and with the TC96.
Thought that they would be hard to find. However on facebook there were 144 for sale throughout the country and many on area craigslist.
I found a black 08 within 90 miles with one owner and 6,800 miles. He was retired and had four bikes. He said he was selling because of back and knee troubles. It was more comfortable riding his limited.
Contacted him this morning and met him at his residence in the early afternoon. We went to the nearby H-D dealer. He said since he had not ridden the bike this year he wanted to be sure it was safe. Had the dealer do an oil change with syn and safety inspection.
Even if I did not buy it he wanted it ready for someone and wouldn't feel right if it was not inspected. What a standup honorable guy!
It was pristine. There was a quick detach windshield with the brackets for a springer, original stock mufflers, a quick detach luggage rack with a H-D leather covered hard case trunk mounted, the original black painted mirrors (it had chrome mirrors with the skeleton hands and forearm), the owner's manual and both fobs with the programmed security written in it.
He was just over Nada trade value ($8,500) and the cost of the accessories would more than cover the amount. He followed me to my bank and did the deal. No way was I going to try a counter offer.
Some have lamented that they can't buy a new springer. That bike and many others on the market used are a better deal. Just a little leg work and done.
It was dark when I got home so no pic yet. Will post one tomorrow.
The one thing I forgot to ask him was there nice pin striping on the tank, front and rear fender. I don't know if that was standard or he had it done.
Damn I'm jealous. I love those bikes. Most times I see those for sale guys are wanting 11-12k and they have been beat to hell and have 20,000 miles on it. Sounds like you got a steal. It's not very often I won't even try to hagle price, but I probably would have paid full pop on it just like you did.
