Default Fat Bob 2018 LED headlight

Are the UK lights the same as the US versions?

Most importantly, do they dip to the right or left or are they flat cut off and so suitable for driving on either side of the road?

Are there any variations in what actual functions they include? All versions will of course have a High (Main) and a Low (Dip) function, but what about side/parking lights and/or DRL. What do they have and are all versions the same?

Anyone hates the new 2018 LED headlight and has, or is going to take it off and replace with something else, do let me know as I'm after one of those lights.

Well....there's no separate part number for Domestic or International models, so its the same LED unit for all bikes.

It dips to the centre, so is perfectly suitable for use on both sides of the road.

Function is purely main or dip beams. Dip is active all the time once the bike is switched on.

Best of all, they are very, very bright indeed. The beam coverage and pattern is spot on in both main and dip modes.

And no - you can't have mine! :-) It's such a massive upgrade compared to my old 2014 Fat Bob that you'd have to pry it out of my cold dead hands....

I had a closer look at one today and it rather looks like it's too wide for what I have in mind. I'll keep thinking about it though and maybe I'll see a way to fit it to the bike I want it on.

In the meantime I need to work on funding a new Breakout.

I would still be interested in a new Fat Boy headlight and surround. So if anyone is wanting to swap to something more conventional, please let me know.

I'm thinking of a small helmet light of a low wattage fog type to illuminate the inside of turns as here in Oz the ranges I ride small furry animals seem to just dart out from the darkness but less if they've got some light on them. They cause that brake lock up shid yaself moment or the tense up like a gumby and see reaction.

Rivcoproducts.com to buy direct or thru JPcycles, TuckerRocky , etc. lots of lightning. Spot, Flood or combo. Here in New Hampshire we have Deer, Moose and Bear. A good friend got killed hitting a 175 lb Bear in Laconia. I went thru a flock of Turkeys, and took me days to clean a Gold Wing and $2200.00 in damage. Covered by insurance but still got scars from the hot antifreeze.

If you have a round headlight and money to splash around, JW Speaker can help. They now offer adaptive lights that will light up the inside of bends. They incorporate lean angle sensors and stuff to control additional arrays of LEDs to come on and off as the bike leans.

No question they make great lights (incl. the Daymakers for H-D) but they are eye-wateringly expensive.

An important issue however, is how they turn on and off. If you have both sides on, then the out-side light side will dazzle on-coming drivers as you lean. You really need the sensors to detect lean angle and switch on the appropriate side only while leant over and that's not simple as they're not readily available, not to mention the electronic control systems to interface them to the lights.

As far as I know JW Speaker are the only aftermarket light supplier that has developed this technology which is impressive, but as I said, rather costly.
