This recall applies to all 2007 model year Softails built from 08 June 2006 to
14 March 2007.
The HD Safety Recall Notice reads, "These motorcycles were built with a condition that permits the positive {power/red} cable to contact the weld bead on the oil tank. This may cause the weld bead to abrade through the insulation on the cable and cause an electrical short from the battery through the oil tank and oil lines. This could lead to an oil leak and or possible fire, which could result in injury or death to the rider" !
According to this recall notice, the battery power cable will make contact with surrounding metal, ground, result in an electrical short, spark, and create a fire and/or explosion (IMHO).
Most Harley Dealers are just getting onboard with this recall by obtaining the necessary HD parts to correct this problem. 2007 Softail owners, check your mail boxes and contact your local HD Dealer with HD VIN # in hand to see if this recall applies to you.
The official HD MoCo Safety Recall Notice was dated on May 8, 2007.

Old news....Mine's been done for quite some time now.
Ditto. This was a hot topic about a month ago. If you do a search, you can find more on the subject. I fixed the potential problem myself with a length of high pressure/high temp hose.
