I am sorry but maybe I was misunderstood. I did not recommend Progressive for a Softails, I just mentioned that they make a product for the older Softails. I no longer own a Softail since 1991. If I give an opinion it is because I have either taken apart or used the product. Again my apologies.

Following this thread and was going to go with the Progressives with the Remote Res. Adjuster.

So those aren't good shocks?

I'm also curious, I've done shock swaps on several of my motorcycles (non-Harley) where they were mono-shock like the new Softail frames. With the pre2018 Softails, you can swap out the shocks without having to use some type of lift to support the rear end of the bike so it doesn't collapse?

I see people using lifts/stands that hold the bike up from the bottom frame rails and it looks like those would get in the way of access to the shocks? I reckon' not?

Ok, couple things,
1: FastHarley (Motorcycle Metal) told me that Ohlins quit making suspension for the softails because people were more interested in having Chrome parts Vs something that really worked well... The demand wasn't there. I asked if he had something else he could recommend and he said there were other suspension companies out there, Progressive was one of the suspension companies he named but didn't recommend them, said basically all aftermarket suspensions available for these softails were junk (I think he said junk or not very good, one or the other).

2. aviscomi: the revzilla link you provided is for the rear $700.00 I also want the front done. Not sure how much that is. I think combined, prices for both front and rear were around $1350.00 and he charged me 375.00 to install the setup including fork oil.


I'm old school, I don't know much about suspension which I why I posted here. A buddy of mine has Ohlins on his 2015 RG and it rides like a dream. Not sure what he used for the front.

I've also been looking at air-ride but everyone I've seen with an air-ride bike looks like their riding a hardtail. Cost isn't the problem, what my wife needs is a softer rider, I don't care who I buy it from I just want it to work properly.

Air-ride you deal with a compressor and everyone I've ever known with that has had air leaks. Not something I wanna screw with.

Please, feel free to give me some links and information to make this work. My first attempt at dealing with a suspension change.

That revzilla link for the rear shocks looks to be no different than the stupid setup we have on the 17 and up touring bikes. One shock is adjustable, the other is just a dummy.

HD went away from that air pump suspension and went with something in my opinion just as stupid.

I've gotten an earful about Legend and how great it is.... It's expensive but once again it's air-ride.

After a bunch of phone calls to a trusted source we decided to go with Legend suspension. I'll let yall know how it works out.

Anxious to hear the outcome. I had Legends on my SG and had to return them twice. Not due to Legend, their customer service was great, but the issue was my skinny 140lb *** didn't weigh enough for the suspension.
