Default Issue mounting Harley Windsplitter on '06 softail delux

If any reader has Harley's Windsplitter fairing on their softail delux, sure would appreciate a response to help me with
the installation of my just-purchased Windsplitter, which replaces Harley's standard Plexiglas fairing for my '06 softail delux.
The upper and lower bushings on my bike are in good condition as the bike had always been garaged, so I saw no need
to replace them with the bushings and screws provided with the new fairing. The instructions simply advises that if the
bushing are in good condition, proceed directly to setting the Windsplitter in place.

Upon setting the Windsplitter in place the mounting brackets engaged perfectly with the existing upper and lower bushings.
However, the positioning of the left and right latch spring retainers are a mystery. Unlike the retainers on my previous Harley
fairing, these are positioned entirely inside the mounting brackets, which prevents the retainer portion of the spring from being
able to engage the button pins on the outside of the mounting brackets. The installation instructions advise "Push down on the
wireform latch springs so they overhang the rubber bushings. If some adjustment is necessary, loosen the retaining bolts and
rotate the latch springs into the proper position." I can't see any way the retainer portion of the springs can ever engage the
existing button pins, and don't understand what useful function would be served by having simply by having the spring sitting
atop the bushings. So I'm wondering if its actually necessary to replace the existing button pins with the button head screws
Harley has provided with the Windsplitter.

Looking forward to whatever help anyone can give me with this issue. Thanks in advance.
