Default Newb Softail question

Aside from the switch from Evo to Twin Cam in 2000, are there any other changes between a 99 and 2000? I’m talking about non engine accessories like fenders, turn signals, tai light, etc. Are the frames different aside from the motor/trans mounts?

I know the 99 seat doesn’t fit my 2000. Found that out the hard way....

I believe they changed the wheel bearings....same 3/4" size but 2000 up have sealed bearings an the evo have tapered....the centering hole on the wheel was in larged slightly so the rotors an pulleys are slightly different. you can use newer wheels on older bikes but need the rotors to match the wheel, the pulley you can get an adapter for. the front fenders probably swap but not the rears....they went to bolt on fender horns around then an I think the swing arm changed...the rear shocks mount differently to the frame.

For now I’m just trying to gain some knowledge. For instance, I’m looking to add crash bars since this bike is for the wife who hasn’t ridden for a long time. I’ve learned that you can find 2000 and up all over the place, but 99 down is a different bar and are hard to find. Apparently there were more than just engine changes when the Twin Cam models were introduced.

ok....I don't know on the crash bars since the frame changed it'd be a guess. you might be able to modify the mounting tabs an use the later one.

I had a '96 FXSTC and I used what I think was called a mustache bar for highway pegs and it would fit on any frame using U bolts and served well as a crash bar if bike went down at slow speeds. I know.
