Default Installing Street Slammers

Hello all,

Has anyone on here installed Street Slammer Style bars by themselves? HD wants a arm and leg for labor to isntall the ones I am purchasing. Is it a difficult change out? I'm not a mechanic by any stretch, but can turn a wrench some. Any tips? Tricks? Helpful pointers? All help pro and con would be appreciated. I'm changing the stock drag bars out on my 06 FXSTB.

Dave

Installing bars is something you should be able to tackle. I have don't"wrench"and I did mine myself with out any issues.

These bars are designed to work with the stock cables and electric on a train so that's good. The most dificult part is the wiring. Even though you shouldn't need to extend it, you still need to detach it from the main harness (and the connecter itself) and feed it through the bars. Simple enough, except the connection is beneath the fuel tank. You may be able to get by with simply unbolting the tank and lifting it off the frame using some wood blocks as spacers. This would save you from having to remove the tank fully which involves draining it, removing the fuel supply connection, crossover line, and dash connectors.

Or, ifyou don't want to do it yourself, ask some local Harley riders where a trustworthy independent shop is. You can probably get it done for 1/2 or less than what the dealer quoted you.

I've decided my bike will only go back to the dealer for warrenty work & service. I like my dealer, but their prices are insane.

2) Harley Dealer #2 labor is 73.00 an hour... bar install is 6 hours*full* (430.00)
3) Indi #1 labor is 75.00 an hour... bar install is 5 hours (375)
4) Indi #2 labor is 50.00 an hour... bar install is 7 hours (350)
