Default gear oil problems

Hey guys and girls! I’m doin a service on my 04 super glide sport and I’ve dumped the gear oil but when I started to refill it, it overflowed! I’ve only put 500ml (17 fl oz) in and it should take at least another 200ml (7 fl oz)
also I thought maybe there might be a blockage so I took the drain pulg out to see if any oil had made it to the bottom of the pan and no oil came out
HELP!!!

Did the "gear oil" you drained out look like engine oil?

You need to get the bike manual for the that year bike and model. Having never wrenched on a dyna the drain plug may be different than a softail.

If you removed the plug on the bottom of the engine case that could be a bigger problem. That plug is not supposed to be removed.

I was trying to prompt the OP for what exactly he was attempting to change... seeing as how I have never put "gear oil" in a bike.

Ive put transmission specific oil. Ive put primary specific oil. And ive put engine oil.

I think of gear oil as something that goes in an axle of a vehicle. Something like a 75w90 gear oil.

Yes, exactly like a 75/90w gear oil.
