Default pre-titled???

O.k. Today I went down to my local HD dealership for some type of Anniversary party they were throwing, band, food, beer the whole ball of wax. It just happens that I was also going down there to get my ecm download for the SE exhaust and air cleaner I installed this week.

So the tech takes the bike back into the shop and hooks it up to the computer to do the download. A few minutes go by and I see like three or four more techs standing around my scooter. A few more minutes go by and the service manager comes over and tells me that he can't do the download on my bike. We walk over to the bike and he says that the reason why he can't remap the ecm is that there is a racing tuner program already installed on my bike. So all the techs standing around are looking at me like I installed a racing tuner and haven't said anything about it. So I tell them that I've had the bike like three weeks and the only thing that I have done to it is the SE exhaust and air cleaner.

To make a long story short, they do a vin# search on it and come to find out that the dealership they bought the bike from bought the bike from some lady in PA. Now to me it sounds like I bought a new used bike. The bike only had 16 miles on it, but the fact that the bike was pre-titled by some women in PA sounds a little hoakie. IS this a common practice or have I been had. Apparently, either the woman in PA or the first dealership installed the racing tuner at some undisclosed time and forgot to tell someone.

So, the dealership I bought the bike from said they would put in a new ecm and I would have to pay for the download.

To me this sounds like I am getting hosed on each end. No only did they not disclose the fact the bike was pre-owned and pre-titled, whether the bike had 16 miles or 100,000 miles is really irrellavent, and now they want to replace a $500.00 part with a $100.00 part and I still have to pay for the download.

What should I do about or is there really nothing I can do?

Sorry for the long winded post.

Default RE: pre-titled???

Sounds like you've been had. The bike if it was pre titled should have been sold as a used bike, not new because it wasn't once it has been titled. Contact your state attorney general. I would make them refund your money and buy a new bike or have them replace it with a new bike. There's no telling if the miles on the bike are actual miles either unless you can track it through inspection certificates at time of inspection, the miles are noted.
