Heritage Softail vs Fatboy Question
Now, the fatboy is a little more than I want to shell out, and I am actually partial to laced wheels... so my question is how do these two bikes compare to each other (fatboy vs heritage softail).
Spec-wise they seem pretty similar. On curiosity is the gas mileage? Why the difference??? Same gearing, etc, right?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh, what is insurance like on a bike like this. Insane or not too bad. I’d have to finance a portion of the bike, so we’re talking full coverage. I hope that this won’t be a deal breaker.
When I was making my bike decision i looked into the fatboy v. heritage and yeah the heritage is basically a pimped out fat boy with laced wheels, my dad had an 02 heritage and I loved it, by the way if you can find one with the profile laced wheels, they are awesome. Heritage classic comes with bags and windshield and a little more chrome, I like the new paint sceme on the new '06 heritage though.
For insurance I would check www.progressive.com they will give you a quote instantly via the web, no sales guy or phone calls........ My springer is like $26 a month for full coverage and its a brand new 2005. Make sure you shop around for your bike, MSRP dealers exist and Ive seen good prices on those Heritage's
I see you can get as optional equipment, chrome aluminum profile laced wheels on the 06 FatBoys .
You are right the specs on the FatBoy and the Heritage softail are the same. The only thing I could think of that may give the FatBoy 2 more miles per. gal. in fuel economy may be the smooth wheels. ?????????????
www.hdcoosbay.com if so that would make them an MSRP dealer.......
I think you should demo a Heritage before you buy that Fatboy...the aluminum rims on the Fatboy are hard to clean after awhile and sometimes on the highway, you can catch cross drafts on the rims due to their closed nature...I think you would find that the Heritage would be the better value...especially for touring...given the fact that the Heritage comes with all you need (windshield, bags and a 2up setup)...on my 04 Heritage I found the stock seat very comfortable and a great all around bike...also the Fat boy doesn't come with the additional clear lights on each side of the headlamp which I find is really valuable for safety purposes....when I first went to my dealer, I was looking to buy a Fatboy but instead brought home the Heritage and was not sorry...that is...until I saw the Deluxe (I recently traded in my Heritage and ordered a Deluxe)...
If I had it to do all over again and was going to stay in the Softail family I would spend the extra money and get the Heritage Softail Classic.
My next scoot will more than likely be the Road King Classic. The Road King Classic seems to be a pretty good bang for the buck.
There is a big difference in the way the "Heritage Softail Classic" is dressed out compared to the "Heritage Softail", plus a big difference in price. I think Jerm is asking about the Heritage Softail compared to the FatBoy.

I agree with Frosty. The solid wheels make for an "interesting" ride, particularly when you are passing or being passed by a large vehicle. The cross wind will definitely change your path and it makes it hard to relax. Once I got the spokes, she tracks straight and true. So my bike kinda migrated from a Fatboy to more of a Deluxe.
Good luck!
plus thats been a lot of the fun, finding and putting all the stuff on myself, a bike fully loaded is little fun to me
