New guy
Hello everyone. Was looking around on line on how to properly remove my front wheel and came across this forum. About 4 years ago I purchased a 1998 softail heritage from a buddy who heard me talking a test riding a fatboy. He had picked up a Ultra and was not riding this one. He had purchased it new and built it to what it is now. Took it for a spin and ended up taking it home. Ive rode motorcycles for ever but this is my first Harley and love it. Got my wife a 2005 sportster low couple years ago cause she didnt like the back seat. Anyway the chrome is flaking off the front rim hub and want to remove it and see if I can get it re chromed instead of replacing it. Its a 80 spoke but not sure what brand. Called a couple wheelwrights and they said they would fix it for less than 1/2 price of a good new one so gonna try that route. Any input is appreciated.
Welcome, did you U-tube it (how to properly remove & install the front wheel) yet?
The 98 should be simple (actually most are).
Remove the caliper (and support) then the wheel.
No ABS exc. just make sure you keep the assembly separated (side to side and in order) mainly the spacers.
Find out what the torque is (how to tighten properly) before you put it back together.
How is the front tire, good time to replace if needed (or close).
A bike jack would be helpful.
A side note: I love the EVO's, I miss my 94.
The idle is so much sweeter than the newer FI bikes

Thanks for the welcoming to this forum. GRWHD Yes I have a jack and I did google and looked a a couple videos. I was not sure if the caliper had to come off or not. I'll be removing the wheel this afternoon. I was going to get the torque specs fron the HD mechanic that I use before I put back together. New tire and new brakes last year.
