Rode home from work today and decided to get the bike cleaned up really good for the first time this year.
Got the bike up on a jack and as I was washing the front wheel, spinning it through my hand, noticed that the wheel was bent. Hadn't noticed it before. It definitely isn't affecting handling. No wobble or anything at high speeds.
I know exactly when it happened. I was on my way to work the week I got it out of storage, tearing down I-95 about 85mph when a section of concrete went missing right in front of me. Hit the lip of the large pothole HARD. Actually looked for damage at the time but didn't notice anything.
So. What should I do? It isn't affecting the ride at all. I've likely been riding with the bent rim for 2-3 weeks. Can the wheel be straightened out? Should I be looking for a new one?
I have to ask it's a 09? Did you get the tire and wheel option when you bought the bike?
You know the one that if you hit a pot hole or get a screw or nail in the tire they'll replace it at no charge? Check on that first... jus my .02
Bent mine too, on a road tit. Didn't notice it until weeks later and rode with it that way for almost a year until I sold it. Didn't affect handling so I figured, why bother?
Oh yeah, I think it bent my rim because my tire was way low on air.
that sucs Hollywood...theres a shop in New Hampshier that does custom wheel repairs...they repaired my thunderstar rim after a pothole mishap in Boston...pm me and I'll get you the number
Shout out to fellow member Carmell RKC for hookin me up with his take-off wheel from his 09 Night Train (With good rubber still on it). Great deal! Wheel is like-new and the spokes look great (spokes on my bent wheel look like sh*t as I don't give them much TLC).
Gonna take my bent wheel and try to get it straightened...If I can get it straight again I might PC it black and mount some new rubber on it so its ready to go when the tire on Carmell RKC's wheel is done.
