If I had half the money I've spent on other bikes, trying different combinations of windshields and lowers to beat the wind and buffeting I could have bought my Fat Boy for the Street Bob price. This time I decided to go with a full face helmet and no shield or lowers. So far so good. But I ride mostly back roads, and spend very little time on the freeway, much less at speeds of 70 and higher. If I did I'd probably be trying all sorts of things on this bike too. But for now, it's nothing but my bike, my full face helmet and clean, non-buffeting air.
And bugs
Good luck guys, I wish you well in your endeavors to find that sweet spot without buffeting. It's there, but elusive. My best solution was on my VTX when I had a Batwing and a 14" Long Rider Shied on it, which took me many years to arrive at. Before that I would have been all over that little wunderlich, and probably still would if I was still trying to defeat nature. Though I might try to mount it some other way so that it wasn't directly in my line of sight. Necessity being the mother of invention and all.
Cheers Adm.
i really appreciate your help. Now all I need to buy is a torque wrench with settings between 6 - 11 nm. Guess Halfords it is!!!
You don't really need a torque wrench for those two bolts - all they do is hold the nacelle on. Just tweak them up and use a little bit of blue Loctite and you are good to go.
Other than that.....yes, for Harley maintenance you'll need torque wrenches. Teng Tools are pretty good for the price and easily available on eBay.
Great description of the problem with this windshield. I also have 2018 FatBoy & installed the 15 HD windshield, and the problem is exactly as you described. I am 5 10 and the wind was bad with the original seat. After installing a new Hammock seat, the problem is much worse as I am now sitting 2 higher on the bike.
As I am unable to locate a batwing fairing for my bike, I will likely install the 21 Memphis Fats Nigjt Shades.

thanks again for the information👍
I don't understand all this. I'm 5-10 and have the 15 inch wind-splitter and the wind goes well above my face. Of course, this is a different shield, this is the one with the little lever in the middle, designed to lessen buffetting. I'll see if I can find a pic. Yes, here's a few.
I finally abandoned the 19" OEM shield and will be selling it soon.
I went with a Memphis Shades and then installed the Hot Wing on top. It is much better now, but still need to adjust the height. I'm also changing seats to a hammock, but have to wait till the end of the month or so. They are backordered.
I think I got the 19" one, but I might have been better off with a 15" version.
AFAIK, there are still no other shields out there.
Hey guys, I'm about to have a custom screen made up, this thread has been very useful. I'll be designing in some lower extensions and making it angle adjustable. Is there anything you recommend?
