No vibration on mine. This bike is a lot smoother than my roadstar was!

Ditto!!! Much smoother than my RS Warrior. No hand buzz after a long ride.

I just went through the same thing, almost. I started off test riding the Custom, Heritage and Deluxe. Personally I found the HC very easy to handle and rode very well but the mini apes werent for me and I wasnt diggin the studs so much ont he bags. I felt more confident on the HC than the Custom but I dont think you can go wrong either way honestly. As for me I pick up my Vivid Black Deluxe tomorrow! I think the Deluxe was the perfect compromise of custom styling with the nostalic look and the ability to do some touring (with bags and a windshield).

Neither,

Go for a Fatboy. You can make it whatever you want.

No vibration here either! I also came off of a RS Warrior. The Custom is so smooth!

Welcome to the real world. Commute?

This ain't sexy, but a Heritage bag will hold two plastic one gallon milk jugs, extra gloves, sunscreen, and a few other things and leave you another bag for your laptop, "just in case" rain gear and whatever.

Yes, two gallons without forcing it and yes the lid will still close easily. Yes you will need to carry stuff so I'd plan on having saddlebags. The Heritage's are great.

I like floorboards to put my feet on instead of hanging my heels on pegs. I like the wide seat. I like the windshield a whole bunch.

If you really plan to use it for that much regular transportation, I'd want the Heritage.

I have a Heritage, a Deuce and a Wide Glide. Don't ask why because the Heritage gets the use.

We are voting to decide what you can get, right?

I would tour/take longer trips on either one of your two choices. Seats, handlebars, foot controls can all be changed to make any bike more comfortable.

One thing I learned years ago is that if you don't buy the style bike you really like you'll start dropping all kinds of coin trying to make your 'compromise' bike look and feel more like what you really wanted in the first place.

Sounds to me that the Softail Custom is what you want.
I second this sentiment. I was in this same quandry and have gone with the custom. Lets face it: If you want the most no-nonsense, super-comfortableand reliabletourer out there then you aren't thinking about the black and orange. On the otherhand, if you want style, mojo AND a pretty darn good tourer, you can't go wrong with any Harley. In this light, I think it is far more important to choose your Harley based on it fitting the style you are after. Your most powerful moments of "customer satisfaction" are going to come when you are walking toward your gleaming steed across a parking lot, thinking, "Damn, that is the most gorgeous piece of rolling sculpture I have ever laid eyes on...and it's mine!"
