Default Deuce Saddlebag installation?

I have a new set of stock Deuce saddlebags and mounting hardware.

Does anyone know if they can be installed without removing the rear wheel?

Any tips?

Here's a pic of a set like what I have, but not mine.

TIA.

Not my favorite look on a deuce. It certainly looks to me that the bar that goes between the bags is going to go right in front of the tire, and like between the swing arm, so unless it comes apart from the bag mounts, I'd think the wheel would have to come off...

J,
I put these on my '07 last fall. I did it without taking the rear tire off, but I have to admit that when I was done, I was thinking that removing the wheel would have been easier. I did get the job done, and it was fine. Thinking back, the most valuable tool I used was those ratcheting box end wrenches that swivel. Mine are Craftsmans, but look around for any set. If you're not familiar with them, they're a set of open end wrenches, with ratcheting box end on the opposite end. Very useful! And would make a great father's day gift (No, I don't work for Sears). Be patient, this job takes time. And good luck.

I had the dealer do mine many years ago, so not sure. However I am sure about the chip on the left rear corner of the rear fender the bracket caused. The back part of the bracket sits right under the back of the rear fender near the license plate light. Thats why I took them off. Also they are not removable once they are installed.

My advice would be to buy the EASY BRACKET system, and that way you can remove them.

Oh, and I sold my Deuce Thursday.

I do have a set of those wrenches. I'll put it on the stand to lower the wheel and give it a try. Thanks.

I just swapped out the factory brackets for Boss Bags brackets. Removal and installation was really easier than I expected. Jack the bike up to get a LITTLE (emphasis on little) extra room. I used a small 3/8 rachet and with a little patience it wasn't a problem.

BTW nine11c2: the bar goes in the back above the license plate so you don't have to remove the wheel.

I would remove mine most of the time and used four acorn nuts to cover and secure the bolts. The boss bags make this really easy as they just pop on and offa modifiedbracket. The easy brackets are an alternative, but I wanted a larger bag.

So lets see a pic or two???????

PS At least you won't have to put up with an 07 Harley 6 speed sounding like it's coming apart, and maybe is.
