For anyone running E3 plugs, can you let me know what you think of them? Notice any gains or decreases in engine performance or fuel economy? What are your overall thoughts on them, etc...
I'm not using them but plenty of threads on plugs where they have been mentioned. The bottom line is stick to stock. The fancy plugs in general just cause problems.
I tried them in my last bike (2011 RGU) because it had a lot of trouble with spark knock. It was very sensitive to different brands of fuel, ambient temp, etc. They seemed to help for a little while but only a little and not for very long. I know this sounds weird but I traced the whole problem to when I replaced the original plugs with Champions. I know the Champions are supposed to be identical to OEM Harley plugs so it shouldn't have made a difference. Just on a whim I replaced the E3 plugs with stock HD plugs and the spark knock problem almost went away. It would still do it just a little if the bike got really hot but it was rare. I still don't know why but that bike liked factory plugs for some strange reason. And, yes, before anyone asks, I did check the gaps. And, to answer your question, I did not notice any difference in performance with the E3 plugs.

Not all spark plugs are equal. There can be a difference from manufacture to manufacture
for the exact same engine. The heat range can differ just enough to cause pinging.

Right. But the Champion R12Y and the HD 6R12 are supposed to be the same plug (Champion makes HD plugs).
Depending on year, some older Harley's use the resistance in the plug to monitor spark knock. So even look alike NKG and Harley's plug has way different resistance. Use a Harley plug. Harley does not make them but like their oil filter sure spec them out.
You are not going to be able to tell a bit of difference in any thing that gets the fire going. Don't fall for tin man BS.
