Hello Guy's I just bought an 07Deuce and was wondering why I feel a knock when I start? A friend of mine has a 07 RoadKing That starts more smoothly. Is this due to the newness ( only 430 miles ) Also every gear knocks when shifting into it. Adjustment??? New to the fourm Not Harleys. Thanks Guys.

 

that's hard to tell from here.i would let the dealer hear it. my bike only shifts hard on the first shift @ start up. after that they are smooth.

 

Howdy my 07 night train did that and then it broke down with less than 300kms on it and it turned out to be a problem with the main power link and while it was in there they did the recall as well ,so if it was me i'd get in for a check up so you don't get stuck like i did. It was a very dissapointing experiance.

 

What Recall? I looked for something on recalls and didnt find anything?

 

I have an '07 Deuce & it knocks when starting too. The starter was redesigned for '07-the knock or slap is normal. Don't know why your friend's does'nt. Mine trans is not quite as loud after I changed trans oil at 1000 miles, but thinking of changing to Mobil-1 75W-90 gear oil-supposed to quiet things down.

 

That bang is to get all them cubic inches turning over together. I use BelRay in the tranny.........stops all the clunkin' and smooths out the shifting.

 

Theres a recall for a main wiring loom its the one thats has caused some shorting out which has caused a melt down of some oil lines and some quite nasty experiances for a few people, its certainally been mentioned on this site so check it out or find out from your HD dealer if your bike is included.

 

I have an 07 Deuce with now 3500 miles on it and the sound you hear is still there on mine. To me it is a loud knock just as the engine fires. Sounds like the starter gear slamming away as the motor turns over. It sort of sounds like a back fire, but at the instant the motor fires. I had read that this would have gone away when the ECU was re-mapped, but still there for mine.

Mine has done it from day one and still does it today. I'm hoping that if anything breaks it will be before the end of my 5 year extended warranty.

My trans too is very noisy (even after changing to HD synthetic). It was quieter with the SYN, but still sounds like two rocks smashing together from neutral to first and most of the gear changes. Mentioned it to the dealer and they were not too concerned about it.

Also, check the bottom of your primary where the drain plug is from time to time. I found oil on mine and it turned out to be a leaking seal on the trans output shaft. That cost me 5 hours of riding time during Bike Week in Laconia NH this summer. At least it was on a rainy day!
