Ok so I have a 1999 Fatboy w/80 co EVO, the bike is all stock minus the exhaust. The issue is when I turn on the ignition switch, there seems to be some sort of short in the wires because sometimes the dash and headlights and everything will light up and but as soon as I hit the start switch everything shuts off dead with no power

 

I would start with the ignition switch.

 

A somewhat common problem on older Evos.
