Default 05 NIGHT TRAIN

All,
Going to look at an 05 NT this weekend. It is supposed to have aftermarket pipes, handlebars (drag with risers) and Stage 1 done. It also has FI.

This will be my first HD, so I need some help on what to look for.

Anything on this particular year model in need to pay close attention to?

Will I be loosing anything by getting an 88FI w/5speed vs the 96 with 6speed?

Should I just wait and spend the extra 3 gs and get a new one?

Anything else you can think of, please let me know

Any input from you NT owners will help me out alot.

Thanks

RetGrunt

IMO, I would spend the extra $3K and get the new one. Not because of the 96/6spd, but because I like to start out with something that was mine, and only mine.

BTW, if you're looking to do the mods to match the other bike, it may be a lot more than an extra $3K. But it doesn't change my opinion.

Good luck!

My opinion buy the used and then you'll have 3 grand extra to change things. The hit you take on the new ones isn't worth it to me. My 05

Thanks for the feed back.

BTW: I just talked with the guy and the pipes are Screaming Eagle, if that makes any difference. Some kind of "Slip in" type pipe. I will google it to see what they are.

The color is Black Pearl, which I understand is sort of a metallic black color.

prolly just the screamin eagle slip ons....not that great. better with a full exhaust...if i were you id go new as well!! i mean, its BRAND NEW!!! and it sounds like this price is kinda high...i agree with davej, not for the motor or anything, but just bc its new, yours and only yours....take into consideration tho, if you go new, you gotta dump some money on pipes, and maybe a pcIIIusb. Pipes round 500...pcIII i think like 250 300....... and besides, your prolly takin out a loan...whats 3gs gonna raise your payment??? like 50$? but check with more than one dealer....i had to ride my 06 home 4 hrs, but it saved me about a grand

BTW, I thought of another reason to get the new one...200mm rear tire. Of course, you may be able to find a used 06 with one now, or dump the "extra" $3K into a fat tire kit.

yes, davej....thats prolly the best reason to go with the 07.....the fatter tire....although my 200 is now too small for me, it kept me satisfied for a while....

With the dealer prep and fgt, just on the stock new bike, the difference is like 4gs. But I also understand what mean about the new one being just yours.
I will definately take my time and really think about things before I buy.
I will know when I see "the one" and set on it for the first time. But that is why I'm asking everyone's input, because I want to go into this H-D adventure which some knowledge in my pocket and not just buy what the salesman want me to hear. Kind of like know what BS smells like so I don't need to step in it to get the experience.

Lots of H-D dealers here in the Central Texas area, and used private owner types for sale, so the field is wide open. Problem is, there aren't many NTs on the market, at least from what I've seen.

Thanks all

back again: I like the way you have yours looking, very nice.

DaveJ,

What difference in ride does having a 200m rear tire make?

thank you Ret. Another thing that I failed to mention is the wide rear tire. Bikes with them definatly have a different feel to them.I don't care for the pushing feel that goes with the fat tire. While they look cool as hell I don't feel comfortable on them. I've rode fat tire Fatboys,Dyna's and a Nightrod and they all had that same feel to me. I suggest you ride both styles and see for yourself.
Not a fat tire but a 160/16 fills up the fender and requires no other changes.
