Having got your bike the way you want it I'd keep it for a while anyway. The new Deluxe bikes are still going to be around for a few years, plus with more bikes in the pipe line from Harley they may produce something you like better.
When I bought my Cherry, I had a choice between a Deluxe (if I waited about 3 months) and a Herritage. I decided on the Heritage (because I did not want to wait) and figured if I added everything to the Deluxe that came with the Heritage, the Deluxe would have actually cost as much or even more than the Heritage.
I'm not quite sure the deal is in your favor other than getting the a rather bare bones '18 with an M8 vs. a '17 already with the works and only 700 miles. He will probably be able to sell the '17 for more than the Deluxe he is offering to you.
He is a dealer, even if a friend, and has to make a profit. If he was willing to swap the '17 Heritage with all the upgrades you made for a '18 Heritage, I'd be inclined to say jump on the deal, but .....
If money is no concern go with your heart, if it is of concern, go with your head.

Its not apples to apples - Thats why its a hard decision. The bags, back rest and windshield are off my heritage. I like it stripped down BUT the bags and rest are on HD quick release brackets.. After coming home, smoking a cigar and having 2 fingers of basil hayden - Im going to keep my Heritage. I love the bike. It looks better than anything in the line right now and I am happy with a 103, im not racing.. End of the day, I just like the Heritage, thats why I bought it... Its my 3rd one.
I am glad to hear that you kept your bike. I love Deluxes, but I just saw the new 2018 and I did not like it as much as my 2015. It just has a slightly different look to it. I know the model/color you have and it is a really good looking bike. You have a really good canvas to start to make it own and in the end I do not think you will regret it.

I bought this bike after I got hit last year. I had all summer to work on the bike and quite frankly, I physically couldnt ride it bc I was hurt. I put so much time and effort into it, its exactly where I want it. I have a lot of love and sweat equity in it. I was blind sided by the trade offer and I wanted to make sure I wasnt doing something dumb by saying no.
