Default Clear coat coming off rear wheel.

I have a 05 NT and just noticed the clear coat on the rear wheel is starting to discolor and will soon be peeling off. Anybody else have this problem? The bike is only 2 years old and just came out of warranty. It stays in the garage and is never stored outside. No chips in the clear coat. I'm thinking about showing the dealer and see if I have anychance of getting it replaced. It just shouldn't happen on a 2 year old bike with 9k miles. What do you think my chances are?

Have you checked that you're not leaking brake fluid onto the rim?

No brake fluid leaks at all. It's only one spot on the whole rim.

G'day greybeard122, I have a '07 Night Train with the standard rear rim with a black centre. I polished the rim to remove hand prints off the rim as a result of lowering therear end. The polishing cloth had black aluminium residue on it, because of thisI didn't think the aluminium was clear coated just black powder coated in the centre?

Cheers Rich

I think the black residue on your rag is probably brake dust. I think the clear coat maybe only on the aluminum part of the rim. Itdefinitley has to be clear coated because unprotected aluminum starts to corrode very fast.

Hey amigo, I've gotta 05' too and my rear rim is not cleared. I can polish it up real nice with some mothers, it's not brake dust.

if you somehow got clear on yours you can always take it off with sandpaper. use wet and work your way from like 600 grit up to 2000 grit to smooth it out. it'll look nice but then you've gotta keep up on cleanin it.
I took the clear off of my front lower sliders and they look good, but I think I'm gonna get em powder coated black....

I just assumed they were clear coated because all the new cars with polished aluminum rims are clear coared and you can't even tell. if it gets any worse, it will be an excuse to upgrade the rear wheel. Thanks for all the input.
