Default Small mod to 114 air cleaner cover.

There is a bar on top of the 114 Ventilator cover. There is a very tiny air gap between the bar and the air filter. Like maybe 10 thousandths. Not sure why the bar is there. It doesnt touch anything and so is not used for support. I cut the bar off with a jig saw. I then sanded and touched up the cut. I turned it upside down so the factory finished side was what is visible. This should, in theory, give you a couple of more square inches of filter surface area. I also removed the breather hoses as they are directly in the path of the air flow. I dont plan to vent to atmosphere until the warranty is up. I was advised not to do so during the warranty period. So will these small mods help? Who knows. But the bottom line is they are a step in the right direction and cannot hurt. I apologize for the ridiculously bad image.

"This should, in theory, give you a couple of more square inches of filter surface area"

I don't know what theory you followed but the filter surface area stays exactly as is.
Unless you modded the surface area too, which is impossible to determine from the picture you posted.

There is about 2 to 2 1/2 square inches of the filter that is covered. You are uncovering that area with the mod. Its not that the filter magically grows. It has the effect of more surface area available

Good call.

I just had my filter housing off today to replace the element with the K&N one. Should have done that (or at least flipped the filter housing through 180 degrees just for the look).

I'm not sure removing the breather hoses was a good idea though. I think you may just end up with oil collecting at the bottom of the filter and dripping out onto the bike. But maybe not...

I actually removed the breather hoses some time ago. Still nothing more than a couple of drops of oil occasionally. Its no worse than before. But like you I thought it might be. Just didn't like those hoses In the path of air flow. Who knows if it makes any real difference. But they don't help.

Yeah. I would vent them to atmosphere as I did on my last bike. Might still do so, but who knows....
