So I rode another 07 Deluxe yesterday and the ride was great, much different from my NT. One thing I did notice though is how hot the motor got. It did not have an oil temp gauge, but I would say around 230-240...and when I came to a stop in traffic....wow...HOT...
I have read some of the threads on this and just curious if anyone has this problem and when they go on long rides, how is the heat issue
All the 07 bikes seem to run hot, especially to new people. The factory has them set to runa tad on the lean side to comply with the EPA regs.
It shouldcool down a bit as it breaks in and switching to synthetic oil will reduce it to the 200/220 range. Many of the guys have reported thatthey got the temps down even more after installing a PCIII or SERT to richen up the fuel mixture a bit. But even on a good day its still going to run in the 190/210 area.
If you think its hot now you should have tried to ride one of the early production models before they 'fixed' them. Mine ran hot enough to fry things at a distance till it got the download 'fix' put in.
If you live in an area where its consistantly in the 90's, or more, I would serious consideration to adding an oil cooler. For a little more 'help'.
I believe that the 'fix' was incorporated into all production bikes around the end of October, begining of November so thatbike would have just been loaded with the updated map before it left the plant.
So to answer your question, no its undoubtedly been done already. Just double check that they have done the battery cable recall. The dealers were NOT supposed to let ANY bikes out of their sights that haven't had it done. But I would double check, just to make sure that it didn't get overlooked by accident.
Believe me you don't wanna know the kind oftrouble that little 'problem'caused for some poor guys.
Hey I noticed you are out in Rochester...We have an office out there. I actually went to the Harley dealership out there...you guys definitely get your winters...lol
I have the heat issue on my 07 Heritage Softail Classic. As long as you don't spend a long time sitting at a light it's not bad at all. As long as I'm moving 5mph or above I don't notice it. After a while of sitting at lights at Laconia, I was hating life; could't wait to get on the freeway and heading home.
My V&H True Duals just arrived today and the K&N and Fuelpak are on their way. I've heard a more free-flowing exhaust will go a long way to decreasing the temps. A full stage 1 is considered a necessity to make the new Softails run more efficiently, cooler, and give the new 96in a little more power.
