I have an 05 Deluxe. I really love the seat rail that is on the seat. IT goes with what I am trying to accomplish in looks. However a major part of the look I am going after is also the rear crash bars. I installed the rear crash bars and the seat rail and tab that they attach too is located in the same spot as the crash bar (wont work). I borrowed a 2005 Heritage Springer seat from the neighbor, contour wise it fits, but the mounting poinnts are different. I really like the studed look of the Heritage so I bought a Heritage seat to match the new Heritage bags. It arrived yesterday and the front tab is shorter and sits physically higher up into the seat. It uses side mounts. I am going to the HD dealership today to pick up some bolts. The tab had to be bent slightly down to try to get it to work. It barely enters the front tab area (not sure if this is a good idea). My problem is this......(sorry a little long winded at times). My wife rides occasionally. I also bought a 2003 Fatboy two up seat. It, just like the Heritage is short on the tab up front. I can go through the trouble of fabricating a new rear tab which also does not match up and adding an extensioon to the front...OR I need to locate a wide comfortable pillion that will work with one of the solo seats I have, using the factory Softail Deluxe mounts? I am also looking for a rail that may be available that will attach to the same mounts vs the seat. This would allow me to have the best of both worlds. any ideas?
Get your stock seat scooped and have gel inserted in the center section. Get the Deluxe touring pillion for the wifey. Add the springer back rail and your set to go. This is my set up...
i too am lost. what exactly is your question? stratplexi, do you have the part number for the springer seat rail? i can't seem to find it in the forums and my local Harley dealer is clueless...
Ok, the stock seat is fine, comfort wise for me. The stock passenger seat is like sitting on a small brick. I plan to take the wife on some long distance runs. I want to find a setup which will allow me to have a comfortable seat for the wife, hopefully a seat rail of some sort (removeable is ok, when I add the passenger seat), and I want it to work with my rear crash bars. Currently the crash bars interfere with the stock seats rail mounts (tabs).
Has anyone seen a seat rail that would perhaps mount to the two bolts that the passenger seat mounts to when you are not using the passenger seat?
The crash bars mount to the horns I thought??? The seat rail mounts to the seat. I don't understand the interference...
Perhaps you have the wrong crash bars??? Or perhaps its the Springer seat that mounts differently than the Deluxe seat. The Deluxe seat with Springer rail will not interfere with the crash bars.
The Deluxe touring pillion is all you should need for the wifey. It is very wide and comfy. I pop mine on in less than a minute for the wife when we are riding 2-up and she never complains.
Here's the pictures. As you can see, the first one with the springer seat, the seat sits down fine. The second one with my deluxe seat, the rear crash bar is fighting with the seat rail for space. I bought a Heritage seat and it's underpan is different than the softail deluxe and springer. It can be made to fit the bike, but I'd also like a passenger seat which will mount to the Deluxe points and work with it.
He is using the Heritage Springer seat rail just like I am. See my post above for part number and MSRP.
I see the interference from the pics but I have seen many Deluxes with the rear crash bars and stock seat with rail. I wonder if it is something painfully obvious...if you put the seat on first, will the crash bar go on?
See the attached pic...
Perhaps these guys modified the crash bar some how??? I would suggest asking a question in the Deluxe forum about anyone running the rear crash bars and the stock Deluxe seat. Also, perhaps there are different versions of the crash bars. What are the part numbers you are running? From the HD website 49261-00 should fit. Do you have the instructions that came with the crash bars?
My guess is that if you have the correct part number, 49261-00, they will fit. You need to take them off and put the Deluxe seat on first and then try to mount them. This is just a guess...
