Default 2017 Heritage Rear Fender Bolt Question

I like the way our new 2017 Classic looks without the saddlebags. For the time being, I plan on installing a luggage rack on the passenger backrest and using a small Boss Bags trunk bag. We only ride local so I just need storage for a phone, wallet, hats and stuff like that. I really wanted a Deluxe, but they made us such a great offer on this Classic that we bought it instead. My wife absolutely fell in love with the way the Bonneville/Fathom Blue looks.

Question: Can I replace the 4 saddlebag studs (#26) on my 2017 Classic with the 4 rear fender bolts (#4) from a 2017 Deluxe?
I'm just wondering if they're long enough because of the passenger backrest side plates.
I thought a lot of these parts were not interchangeable, but I was obviously wrong.

I think our Heritage and this Tri Glide with the same paint combo sure do look great next to each other.
I wish I had the $$$$$ to buy a Tri Glide to park in my garage next to our Heritage!

Good looking Heritage man! I scrounged my bolt bins and found 4 stainless 3/8'-16 SHCS and stainless serrated flanged nuts to swap the studs out when I take the bags off of mine. I did cut the bolts off so they only barely protrude beyond the nut. The serrated nuts have never worked themselves loose and they are much easier to get on and off versus a nylock nut (they are also slightly thinner than a nylock nut).

I did set the SHCS screws in the lathe and machined the heads smaller and thinner just so they look different than a regular SHCS. I basically machined the grooves off so they are nice and smooth bolt heads.

Where in Alabama are you located? I'm in Hazel Green (north of Huntsville area).

I live in Decatur. We bought the bike at Redstone Harley in Madison. We've bought two new bikes there, a Slim and this Heritage, and they're pretty good to deal with. The service manager always has time to answer my stupid questions. I've been riding on and off for 40 years, but I bought my first Harley in 2015.

I just took a screw (#4) off my Heritage and compared it to the a saddlebag stud (#26) and it looks to be the same length.
I should have tried that before I asked the question, but I assumed the studs and screw would be tight as hell, but they
unscrewed pretty easily.
The fender screws on the 2015 Forty-Eight I used to own were tight as hell and I couldn't loosen them at all.

I'm gonna put this Boss Bag trunk bag on the Heritage. It's their smallest size (#64) and it's the same width as the stock passenger backrest pad so it shouldn't overpower the back of the bike and look too big.
If we ever go on a weekend trip, I'll just bolt the saddlebags back on. It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to do that.

I have the same luggage rack and bag and it works great for a longer trip. I really like how easy and quick it is to take the bags off, or put them on, the Heritage. In my opinion it is the most versatile of all the Harley's.

Just an .02 suggestion - I had the removable bag kit on my 17 HSTC. Looked ok but you could still use the bags when needed
