Hey all, few things, I tried searching but maybe I'm using the wrong wording (air intake/intake is standard for trucks, unsure how Harley guys refer to it) second, I wasn't sure if I should put this in M8 or here.
I just got my street bob last weekend, so I'm unsure if this is normal, break in or odd. After riding for 30 minutes or so the intake starts to heat up noticeably. My leg leans against the intake (I'm 6'1"ish and the mids on the street bob are not my ideal) and it starts to get a bit uncomfortable.
Is this normal? Are there any options that allow it to run cooler or is my only option to "move my leg"?
We make a product called a Crotch Cooler that may help you out . It does not cover the air cleaner but will help direct the air .. If you have any questions please let us know .. https://shop.captain-itch.com/Harley...s_c58.htmThank you Itch ..
I understand it can get hot, however I don't recall the intake on my pops '01 fatboy getting as hot. Perhaps it did and I just didn't notice because of the seating position.
I guess I'm wondering if a different intake will let it run cooler? Some of the intakes I see seem to have more surface area for air to enter, which makes me thing it will run cooler than the stock box.
They do/will get hot. I ride wear shorts in the summertime and when I put my feet down at a stop my leg hits it. I've since installed a DK Customs slim profile AC, which still gets hot, but my leg doesn't contact it..

Thanks man, looks solid. I'll have to give that a look. From what I've recently been reading it looks like I'll have to tune as well so I'll need to wait until I'm ready to tune with the intake and exhaust. Glad there is an option for a slimmer style!
I wear shorts in the summer as well. 90 degrees in S.C. on a regular summer day. Add that to a 235 degree motor. yikes! I do take off my flip flops and wear nice slip on shoes though. No dress up for me. Intake cover gets very hot.
I know what you mean. A 30 minute ride from home in light traffic about kills me. For those whose bike does not run hot, you dont understand. We arent talking a hot 250*, we are talking 400-500 degrees
i should also add that I tried to find the hottest spot in the bike which was the top of the exhaust right where it attaches to the engine
