I have a 2015 heritage softail classic that currently has stock pipes. I know I want to get Vance and Hines and am torn between the longshots and true duals. Does anyone currently have these on a similar bike? I would appreciate any inputs and advice.
I just traded my softail in with true dual's on it...I had to wrap the rear head pipe under the heat shield in the area over the primary...puts a lot of heat on your thigh! I wasn't going for max power I just liked the look...with a FP3 the bike ran well.
I have experimented with multiple pipes. I recently went with true duals for my fatboy lo s and have to say the engine is finally able to breath. I don't find any difference in amount of heat coming up from all of the pipes I've had. I was initially concerned about the left pipe (one that comes through the bike and over the primary) hitting the inside of my leg as others have mentioned but those concerns were gone when I actually rode it. That was one of my main concerns before purchasing true duals. But people who have them indicated it was nothing to worry about. They were right. The funny thing is they are not too loud until you hit the throttle. Which is the perfect combination for me.
I know your looking at Vance & Hines but I chose Samson. They make a great pipe and if you get the black ones, they powder coat the pipes as well, not just the heat shields which is a nice touch. Other manufactures only powder coat the heat shields. Don't have to look at those blue pipes. Good luck on your decision.
Thanks for the input. Do the Samson pipes come in chrome as well? My bike had a lot of chrome so black wouldn't look that good on my bike.i know you said you don't hear them until you hit the throttle but do they still have nice sound in idle?
Yes, they have both chrome and black. As far as how they sound at idle, that is subjective. I have fish tails so they are a medium sounding pipe. In other words not deep and not crackly if that makes any sense. To me they sound great. I have always had deep sounding pipes and thought I would never go with a medium tone pipe. But I must say, they are amazing. I didn't think my friends would like them. Not that I care because it's what I like but even they are impressed. They did say they were loud when I got em.
I'm not trying to lean you in this direction. Just giving you options. Pipes are so hard to choose and many people have opinions but the only way you will know is if you hear them for yourself. Don't base your decision on you tube videos. Not even close to how they REALLY sound.
And i forgot to mention............the customer support was amazing as well.
