2018 Heritage 115th anniversary 114 CI Looks great , Rides Great and has a gas cap that is rattling my brain away! Anyone have a fix? Its getting old going back and forth to the dealer but Harley will not help out on the phone (That would be too easy! I called Harley customer service and after a lengthy conversation asking me every personal question they could think up they made it clear they never heard of this issue and I should go back to the dealer. Oil leaks (Faulty oil lines) , falling off fake left side gas cap (Cheap HD Glue??, oil cooler bracket falling off (Screw fell out). I bought it in May 2018. 500 miles! What is gonna happen next?
Bob
I foound that if you close the cap til you get 4-5 clicks, then back it off till you just feel it snug up a bit, the rattle will stop (at least for a while). I have had to do this while riding to stop the rattle.
Another idea that is supposed to work (in liew of Red Loctite) is to use a flat head screwsriver and a mallet to crimp (make slightly snugger) the loose part of the cap. We are told to invert the cap on a had surface but protected by a towel or such to do the crimping. Havn't done it, but I can see how it would do the trick.
Many who have had the dealer replace theirs found the replacement cap rattled also.
That's garbage, I got a new gas cap under warranty, mine was rattling worse than a pissed off rattle snake. My new one is fine. Sure they know about it.
Sorry, man.....didn't notice it was your first post. Lots of smart-assery here at HDF, and I'm as big an offender as anyone. Welcome to the forums and I hope you fix the problem. Although I have no idea how. Other than the Loctite. Which, all joking aside, WILL fix the problem.
