Default 2018 Heritage Classic - 'softer' rear shock setting?

Hi folks,

So if I want to make my 2018 Heritage's rear shock 'softer', ie soak up the bumps a bit more (to make life a little more comfortable on my tailbone) do I 'increase' the setting (towards 5) or decrease it (towards 0)?

It's currently set at 1, which according to the chart in the manual is right for my weight.

Its my opinion that increasing the number means less shock travel. Which equates to firmer harder ride.
Cheers

At 160 lbs for me the setting is as low as it goes (0-1). However, when we ride 2 up, I need it about mid range so not to bottom out on the bumps. Not wanting to remove and replace the seat every time we go out 2 Up, I leave it at the increased setting. I personally do not find it to be a much stiffer (harder) ride on normal roads. There is a little more rigid responce going over RR tracks or on a washboard road, but nothing I can't live with.

To get a "softer ride (as opposed to less stiff)" for the tailbone, I feel it is necessary to do something with the seat. My choice was to let Mean City Cycles do a memory foam mod. This softend up the seat (not the ride) making sitting in the saddle much easier for longer periods. The mod takes a number of hundred miles to break in, but is getting better each time out. Of course, there are many other seat options (as often discussed herein), but the MCC mod was the most cost effective for me.

There are a few aftermarket mfgs of monoshocks for the '18 Softails, but they are very exspensive and I haven't herd of anyone installing one and stating the ride was improved.

I’ve just installed a sundowner which is much more comfy on my tailbone - not had enough time to fully test, but if I need to I I’ll do some surgery to the seat

And I’ll try dialling the shock down to 0
