Default Pipes and tune

Got done with work and installed the SE Street Cannon pipes. If I didn't put them on backwards and have to make two trips up to my 12th floor apartment for forgotten items, the job would have taken about 30 min. But I can never seem to do any work on my bikes without at least two round trips upstairs... Anyway.

They came nicely packaged. I think we could save money and do without the fancy box...

The pipes came off in about 30 seconds. Heat shields off, two bolts to the bracket on each and the clamp.

Guts of the original pipe. Of course I didn't take ANY photos of the new pipe guts. Oh well.

New ones went on as easily as the old ones came off...

Torqued the bolts and clamps down and done.

End result, not so great. At least at idle. Definitely has a pleasant low freq rumble, but was really hoping for some more volume, but they were only slightly louder then the stock pipes. However I will reserve final judgment for when I can ride them. But in the 7 days I've owned the bike its RAINED FOR FIVE. I feel like I'm in F'n florida with none of the benefits...

I flashed the stage one tune from the SEPST which was equally easy, though not as easy as my old Power Vision... But anyway. I'll report back when I can ride.

I'll be watching for your ride report as I am thinking about buying the SE exhaust for my bike.

I'm curious as well. I like the "slightly louder than stock" at idle, as to me there's too much engine noise at idle with the stock pipes. Other than that, and under power I'm fine with them, really don't need/want any more volume under power.

Regardless though I'm not going to be willing to shell out nearly a grand for the cannons and the SE tuner just to get a few more dbs at idle.

I do hope you're satisfied with them though once you've had a chance to ride with them.

Thanks for the info on the seat pan. And the chuckle it brought me.

If you aren't stuck with that seat, take a look at Corbin. Their build quality is second to none and they will custom make anything you want for riding solo or two up, including moving your seating position back.

Put 150 miles on today, Rode to a dealer upstate to pick up a cruise control module as I *thought* I’d be installing new bars tonight and didn’t want to pull cables twice. Unfortunately the bars didn’t work so that’s on hold until Tues. See: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/gener...e-caution.html

Anyway, after the 150, the SE pipes have opened up a bit. But still not nearly loud enough for me. Almost makes me regret the purchase. I love the HD sound and I’m not getting that as of now. However I don’t want to risk my warranty so I guess I’m stuck with it until I’m willing to risk the void.

Anyway, I’ve decided to abandon my plan on retrofitting the Street Bob/Breakout digital gauge for now, as stupid me, I realized I can use an old Power Vision I have laying around (that was previously married to a different bike) as gauges only, and handlebar mount it just like I did on my other bikes,

It won’t be able to flash any tunes (which is also good since HD can’t question it even if left on for service) but will continue to read the ECM for data (engine temp, speedometer, tach, etc.) and can be mounted higher up so it’s within view. Problem solved.

It's a kick to ride isn't it? Love the on demand torque.

Man I’ve not been a big Fatboy fan until these and now I’m completely in love. I was planning on a new touring bike this spring but I think I may skip that for a new Fatboy. She’s a beauty man.

Close to 500 miles. WIll hit that tomorrow. Once I do, I'll drop the oil and filter and put in fresh HD dino. At the 1k I'll switch to Redline syn in all three. Hopefully tomorrow I can do the oil and install the HD Canadian license plate frame on the fender (relo's the plate to the bottom of the fender instead of the side (which I hate). Custom Dynamics has a bar LED light that looks like it may fit on this frame where a reflector currently is. I'm a big fan of visibility so for $40 I may try it out. It's their part number LB01. I got to see if the wiring diagram gives a run/brake as this bike only has two rear sigs that do run/brake/turn and if I tap there the led bar will flash for turn as well as brake. Not what I want. I'll either run/brake or I'll just leave it as run only. We'll see.

The pipes seem to continue to open up a bit, sounding a bit better day by day, though I'm sure that'll stop soon...

Didn’t get a chance to do much today, but hit 483 miles so I figured that was close enough to 500... So I dropped the oil and filter. I was very confused trying to find the drain plug. The service manual has a photo but no orientation as to front to back. Since the trans drain in every HD I’ve owned was aft of the oil drain, I was looking forward of what was the trans plug. The primary was obvious as it was on the primary. But looking at the pan, there was no drain plug. So I put on the J&S and brought it up. And of course there was a plug, that looked like the photo in the service manual, but it was on the back edge of the pan.

Oh well, you learn something new every day. And my next screw up. Silly me goes to the dealer to pick up oil and filter, and bring 4 qts to the counter. Ask one of the guys who I know well “four is right for my FBS, right?” “Yep” I got in return.

So he’s going to get hell tomorrow (as I’ve already given myself for not knowing) because the bike takes 5. Probably 4.5 since I like to keep it about half way hot. But of course I only had 4. 4 did bring it to *just* touching the bottom of the dipstick. So I need a half a quart. Tomorrow. Disappointed as I wanted to see what she can do. Oh well, I would easily go a half quart low, but I won’t.

Tomorrow.

Default Bars, finally...

Nothing ever goes as quickly as I hope... My Wild1 T-bars arrived today, so I took the LH control pack (the one with cruise control I spent full retail on like an idiot, because I had to have it and my dealer (where I get 15% off) didn't have stock) and pulled the wires through, piece of cake. Then I go downstairs and pull the stock bars off, leaving the clutch and brake sitting on the towel on the tank. Two hours later, yes two, I finally get the right side through, The problem I had was although the connectors are so much smaller then the ones from days of old, there was still no way to get the control cable and the fat throttle cable pulled through at the same time with the connectors on. So after f'ing with them for an hour I finally gave up, and depined the connectors. 10 min later it was done. Back downstairs, and bolted them up. Almost perfect. I had to release the brake line clamp to the fork, but thats no big deal. The line just makes it and doesn't pull uncomfortably lock to lock. Same with the clutch. The right side cables are a different story. They fit, but they are too tight for my liking so I'll need the silly 4" extensions the dealers sell. Tomorrow. Other then that, I was too tired to cram the rubber cover back in place over the wiring caddy (I didn't remove the tank like you're supposed to, but I may have to remove the bolts and slide it back an inch to finish up. Another no big deal. Powered up, everything worked. Started up, everything worked. Me happy. I made an improvised turn sig relo by just bolting the existing handlebar mount to the lower nacelle bolt and it looks surprisingly good. Though one is backwards. I am too tired to try and figure it our. Tomorrow....
