If the ***** I referenced won't work then the shaft the **** mounts onto is missing. The shaft is part of the speedometer and not sold separately. That's the same speedometer as I have (well, had).

That's what I was saying. And I think he confirmed, the speedo shaft is missing.
You need a new speedometer then or buy a used one and try to remove that shaft as a replacement.
But I'm not sure if they are replaceable. Maybe someone else knows.
