Personally I love the bars on my 07 Deluxe, extremely comfortable. But at (only) 5'10" I was the seat was back about 1-1.5" further which would make the reach to the bars perfect and make the controls a bit further away which would also be nice. Now Ive never ridden a bike with real apes, but the mini apes on the Heritage was one of the factors that helped my choose the Deluxe over the Heritage.
I'm really short also, but still felt cramped on the deluxe until I changed the seat to a Mustang which moved me back just right. Now I love the stock bars.
