Default Any concerns or recalls etc for '07 Softails??

Hi, thinking of buying a ST Custom '07
Only thing I have heard about bike and/or the new 96 twin cam engine (from a HD Svc. Mgr) is that you have to let it idle for 2 minutes whether its cold or hot already and do not give it any gas in neutral whether you are on the road shifting etc. or want to make a little warning noise with engine roar. the EFI doesnt like it,blows black smoke. This sort of sounds like an issue that HD should solve, but who knows, it's not solvable now.
any other issues you've heard of??, greatly appreciated... just want to know what I'm gettin into ! Thanks, Steve

I havent heard anything about what you have mentioned. I do know there has been a few recalls, nothing major and if you are buying a new bike these recalls should be done before you can even get the bike, not much to worry about. Look around on here there are quite a few threads about the recalls and small things. My opinion, I love my 07 NT, now just need to figure out how to pay for all the upgrades I want to do HAHA.

There were only two 'major' recalls for 07 Softails. the first was for a remap of the ECM and it has been incorporated into all bikes made after last November at the plant. If the bike made it to the dealers without it, they can and should have done it as it takes longer to remove the seat to get at the ECM than it does to download the new map.
The second one is for the battery cable shorting out agains'tthe oil tank. Its not very common a problem, but it can have seriously nasty results. That one should have been addressed at the factory, but again if the bike gort out before the production line fix was incorporated the dealers are under strict orders that it MUST BE DONEbefore they are permitted to deliver a bike to the customer.
As for the 2 minute warmup and blipping the throttle in neutral at traffic lights, your the first person to have mentioned either of them.
Otherwise welcoeme to the Custom club, your going to love it.

Where did you hear that?
Probaly from somebody trying to sell you a used bike.

I haven't heard any of that and my '07 has 1,800 miles and nothing like that. No smoke never andrev all you want in neutral.
As a matter of fact it's impossible not to rev it after you change the exhaust.

I agree with Bad Bowtie, the only problem is, not having enoughmoney for all the ugrades I don't have yet.

Have 6300 miles on my '07. Only warm it up for a minute or two in the winter time. Summer time 30 seconds max. Have reved the engine many times on idle and never had any black smoke blow out of it. Take a factory tour at the york plant. They rev the sh@t out of every new bike up to 80 mph on a tread mill!

My dealer pushed the fact that all 07's and up are EFI. He said no warm up, just start and go. Rev as you like. He did say the 96B runs hot and mentioned syn oil to help cool it down. Some have small issues with the 6 speed being roughin first and needing longer break in.

I have the battery box recall (which protects the +12V cable).

What is the Remap recall for? I presume I already have it as I have not been notified of this one.

Phil
