Default Oil Capacity

New to me 2009 Heritage, 15k miles total, new dealer installed 103 at 9k miles.

I changed all fluids and oil filter today, and the owners manual say no more than 3.5 quarts for the engine. So I put in 3, went for a ride and checked it and it is over full by I'd guess 1/2 quart.

No I get to ruin another turkey baster.

I'm guessing you guys add 2.5 quarts?

Yup. My manual says the same thing. I add 2 1/2 at refill then add as needed to get 1/2 way on the dipstick after a warmup.
How they came up with 3 1/2 is beyond me.

Yeah, apparently a lot of Softail manuals have a misprint in them. 3.5 quarts is way too much. Mine takes exactly 2.5 to put it halfway between add and full hot. Any more than that and it pukes through the breather.

At least I didn't put 3.5 in it, that would have been a good mess to clean up. Thanks guys.
